Vasant Panchami, also spelled Basant Panchami, is a festival that marks the preliminary preparations for the arrival of spring, celebrated by people in various ways depending upon the region.The celebration of the Vasant Panchami is centered on the Hindu goddess Sarasvati. Sarasvati is the goddess of wisdom. She embodies the different facets of learning such as the sciences, arts, crafts and skills. She is often pictured seated on a lotus or a peacock, wearing a white dress.The Goddess Sarasvati is the goddess of intellect and learning.Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of the Vasant Panchami festival. Young girls wear bright yellow dresses and participate in the festivities. The color yellow holds a special meaning for this celebration as it signifies the brilliance of nature and the vibrancy of life. During this time mustard seeds blooms and the filds are looking yellow. During Puja Books, Note Books, Pen and pencils are kept near Devi's feet and blessed before they are used by students.The Puja is generally held Schools, Colleges, Library's and other Educational and Musical institutions. Institutes are generally non operational on the Vasant Panchami day. Celebrated on 5th day of Magha as per hindu Calender and in the month of January or February as per Gregorian Calender.
