Navratri

Navratri is a major Hindu festival observed for 9 days in the month of Ashwin. 10th day is Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami. Religious reflection and fasting is observed during this period. Navratri celebration is somewhat different in different regions.

In Gujarat Garba dance is performed. The Nine nights are dedicated to to different aspects of divine feminine principle or Shakti. Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshiped during time.

Durga puja is also held during this time. In addition to puja cultural events, like Song, Recitation, Drama, fairs are also organised. The Idols depicting Femine power Goddes Durga kill the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura is worshiped in houses and in public pandals.

Decoration and lighting is also done on the pandals of Public pujas. Durga puja is specially held in West Bengal and Assam. In some parts of Bihar and Odisha is also celebrate Durga Puja. On the 10th day The idol is immersed in the nearby river or any other reservoir with beautiful jubilant procession.
