Garba is a folk dance form of Gujarat that celebrates, honors, and worships the feminine form of divinity. Garba comes from the Sanskrit word garbha, meaning Womb.
The dance is performed traditionally by a group of women in circular form around a lighted clay lantern called Garbha deep ("womb lamp"). It is performed during Navratri, a 9 day long festival of Hindus devoted to Goddess Durga. It is also known as Garbi, Garbha, or Garbha Deep.
It is also a religious and social event that originates in Gujarat, commonly performed in festivals or in special occasions.
Nowadays Garbha is very popular not only in our country but all over the world.
People gather in large numbers during the Garba Dance Festival in Ahmedabad. This festival is organized in a big way in Vadodara also.
